• In Canada there are three different types of higher education institutions namely colleges, university and graduate schools. Students looking for admission into post graduation courses should enroll at a university or a graduate school. Colleges in Canada do not offer a Master's Degree.
• The Canadian Association of Graduate Studies (CAGS) or Association canadienne pour les etudes superieures (ACES) is said to be the governing counsel for postgraduate courses. This educational body has a total of 44 different universities, 3 federal research agencies, 2 national level graduate school associations and other institutions.
• To promote post graduation studies in Canada, graduate schools and research institutions fund several international students. Apart from this, supervision of the quality of education related to graduate studies is taken care of.

• To enroll into a Master's study program, students require a Bachelor's degree in a similar field. The applicant must possess sufficiently high grades, a minimum of B+, depending upon the course and university.
• A letter of recommendation from the previous university lecturers is required, along with an illustration of the student's communication skills. In most cases, postgraduate faculties ask for a written research proposal or objectives to understand the applicants' competency better.
• Foreign students from non-English speaking countries must produce English proficiency test scores.

• Generally a Master's Degree course in Canada takes one or two years to complete. Professional courses extend for a few years more. Postgraduate courses usually have a combination of research and assignments that require dedication from the student's part.
• In Canada, candidates have to submit a thesis at the end to mark completion of the course. While presenting this, students must know how to support their theories to the Board.
• Graduate schools and universities have the option of directly giving admission to students wanting to pursue a Doctorate Degree and have scored exceptionally. In such cases, re-classifying to a Ph.D. takes place after the completion of the first year of the Master's program. Such candidates may be entitled for a scholarship, depending upon university's guidelines.
