Saint John

City of Saint John (French: Ville de Saint Jean), or commonly Saint John, is the largest city in the province of New Brunswick, and the first incorporated city in Canada. The city is situated along the north shore of the Bay of Fundy at the mouth of the Saint John River. In 2011 the city proper had a population of 70,063, and the population of the Greater Saint John region currently is 127,761. This marks an increase of 4.4% since 2006.

Situated in the south-central portion of the province, along the north shore of the Bay of Fundy at the mouth of the St. John River, the city is split by the south-flowing river and the east side is bordered on the north by the Kennebecasis River where it meets the St. John River at Grand Bay.

In the year 2010 the population of the Greater Saint John area has grown to 132,192, of whom it was 49% male and 51% were female. Children under five accounted for approximately 21% of the population. People 65 and over accounted for 27% of the population. In the years between 1996 and 2005, the population of Saint John declined 6.8%. When the census was taken in May 2006 the population of Saint John was 69,684 compared with 68,103 in 2001.

Saint John is an industrial city of the Maritime Provinces of Canada. Wealthy industrialist K.C. Irving and his family built an industrial conglomerate in the city during the 20th century with interests in oil, forestry, shipbuilding, media and transportation. Irving companies remain dominant employers in the region with North America's first deep-water oil terminal, a pulp mill, a newsprint mill and a tissue paper plant.

Symphony New Brunswick (SNB), is the province's only professional symphony orchestra. Though based locally, playing a concert series every season in Saint John, SNB offers concerts in other cities province wide. Cultural venues include:
