  • Griffith School of Engineering

Griffith University offers a broad range of Engineering degrees in Civil, Electronic and Computer, Environmental, Software, Sustainable Energy Systems, Sport and Biomedical, Electrical and Electronic and Mechatronic Engineering, and is launching the exciting new Mechanical Engineering program in 2012 on the Gold Coast campus. Do you want a degree that offers a world of opportunities? Engineering encompasses all aspects of everyday life and presents numerous opportunities to work locally, nationally or internationally.

The Griffith School of Engineering is now thriving, offering a selection of progressive and professionally recognised programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. In less than two decades, Griffith University has built a world class School, attracting some of the leading engineering specialists, academics and researches from around the globe. This, along with state-of-the-art laboratories has helped produce quality graduates through "cutting-edge" teaching and research.

    Programs and courses

With industry-standard facilities and the most comprehensive range of engineering degrees available today, there's no better place than Griffith to start engineering your future.

    Engineering

Griffith University's engineering program recognises that you may not yet have fully decided on which engineering discipline your career will be based. First-year studies are therefore designed to provide a balance between the ability to specialise, which is important for those who have chosen a discipline, and the ability to delay choosing, for those who have not yet decided.

Programs offered on the Gold Coast campus

    • Civil Engineering
    • Electrical and Electronic Engineering
    • Mechatronic Engineering
    • Sport and Biomedical Engineering
    • Mechanical Engineering (from 2012)

    Civil Engineering

You will develop knowledge and skills in the planning, design, management, construction and maintenance of civil engineering projects; as well as the communication, research and critical analysis skills which are vital to a successful career as a professional engineer.

    Electrical and Electronic Engineering

This degree prepares you to work in many areas concerned with innovative technologies in many different applications: from electric motors to microelectronic chips; from sensor of movement to complex control systems of robots; from design of network systems to advanced communications systems. It covers the fundamentals of electrical and electronic engineering, and provides a wide range of knowledge and technical skills in key areas such as communications, power generation and electrical machinery, digital signal processing, microprocessors and control systems.

    Mechatronic Engineering

This degree prepares you to work with innovative technologies in many different applications: intelligent machines, micro-machines, smart devices, control systems for consumer products and robotics. It covers the fundamentals of mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering and provides a wide range of fundamental knowledge and technical skills in key areas such as mechanics, signal processing and analysis and sensor technology.

    Sport and Biomedical Engineering

This degree will give you the base skills of an electronics engineer, but will also give you specialist skills to enable you to develop high technology electronic solutions for all aspects of sports training, sporting equipment and biomedical instrumentation used in clinical and rehabilitation environments.

    Mechanical Engineering (new in 2012)

The Mechanical Engineering program will provide you with a broad education designed to give you the skills necessary to become a professional mechanical engineer. Good mechanical engineering is built on a strong foundation of theory, reinforced by experience and innovation. Mechanical engineers are heavily involved in the development and use of new materials and technologies, as well as design and analysis using the most advanced software and computer systems.

In your final year your skills will be enhanced through off-campus industry experience to prepare you for a smooth entry into the workforce. Overall, you’ll complete at least 60 days engineering professional practice.

    Programs offered at Nathan campus

    • Electronic and Computer Engineering
    • Environmental Engineering
    • Microelectronic Engineering
    • Software Engineering
    • Sustainable Energy Systems

    Electronic and Computer Engineering

You will develop the hardware and software design and implementation skills you will need for a career in leading-edge, high-technology fields such as communications, microelectronics, computer systems, biomedical engineering, and control systems (robotics).

    Environmental Engineering

It has a strong interdisciplinary focus on formulating solutions to environmental problems, and developing innovative strategies and technologies for a sustainable future.

    Microelectronic Engineering

You will develop the expertise to design integrated circuits and applications for specific systems which are now used in every aspect of human endeavours to improve human condition in a sustainable way.

    Software Engineering

Software Engineering at Griffith comprehensively introduces you to the principles and practices of software engineering, with a balanced emphasis on theory and practice. As a graduate, you will be highly skilled in cutting-edge software engineering and equipped to meet the demands of a rapidly changing software industry.Distinguished by its focus on group project work in developing software for external clients, this program gives you invaluable experience in teamwork, project management, quality management, the application of international standards and the utilisation of industry best practice techniques.

    Sustainable Energy Systems in Engineering

There is no doubt that our society cannot continue to exist the way we know it unless we develop a sustainable energy supply. We must also learn how to use the energy we have in a more efficient manner. Griffith University's courses in sustainable power engineering are concerned with developing and using technology to generate, store, distribute and use power in the most efficient and sustainable manner.
