    The Discipline of Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence covers a wide range of software engineering and computer science methodologies, which are used in the development, integration and maintenance of computer software. This encompasses a variety of programming languages and software development platforms, fundamental as well as advanced algorithms, methods and architectures, and it extends to a diverse spectrum of application areas including such topical examples as computer security, biometric authentication and games programming.

    The Discipline also spans  the symbiosis between computing and communication technologies and their applications, emphasising the understanding  of complete systems in the converging fields of telecommunications, networks, computer hardware and software engineering and covering topics such as digital signal processing, artificial-intelligence techniques, distributed and database systems, networks, real-time systems, visual computing, fuzzy control and neural networks, wireless and microwave communications, and photonics.
