Skilled – Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)
This visa is for skilled workers who are seeking nomination by a State or Territory of Australia, or sponsorship by a relative living in a Designated Area of Australia
It is Points-Tested visa available under the SkillSelect program where potential applicants are to achieve, or exceed, the minimum Pass Mark for the visa. Points are awarded on the basis of age, English Language ability, qualifications, work experience, etc. Certain family members can be included in the application.
Applications are by DIAC invitation only. To be invited to apply, a person must:
- submit an Expression of Interest (EoI) and be nominated by a State or Territory of Australia;
- nominated an occupation that is listed in Schedule 1 or 2 of Consolidated Skilled Occupation List (CSOL);
- have a positive skills assessment for their nominated;
- be less than 50 years of age when the invitation is issued;
- meet the English language requirements (via the IELTS Test or its authorised equivalent);
- Be able to score at least 60 on the Points Test (to be invited applicants will need to meet, or exceed, the occupational ceiling score set by DIAC for their nominated occupation).
There are some obligations that states or territories will require you to meet. These include that you:
- Stay in that state or territory that nominated you for at least two years;
- Keep the state or territory informed of any changes to your address;
- Complete surveys and provide information when asked.
Upon grant of the visa you are able to:
- Study in Australia as a local student;
- Be eligible for Medicare;
- Be eligible for discounted medicine through and the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS);
- Access certain social security payments (subject to residency eligibility criteria);
- Be eligible for Australian Citizenship (subject to residency eligibility criteria);
- Sponsor relatives for permanent residency in Australia.
