They help students locate themselves in the contemporary art and design landscape and acquire the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in a fast changing world. Their research pushes the boundaries of art & design practice and involves partnerships with researchers from many other disciplines. They engage with science, develop cultural narratives, explore 21st century issues such as sustainability and create concepts and content for the digital economy. In all their research DJCAD acts as a creative hub facilitating the thinking of others by visualising, curating, prototyping, speculating and mapping.

DJCAD is a creative hub at the centre of multiple networks: Networks of learning, discovery, peers, employability and culture.

The quality of their work is widely recognised

For the last 2 years their students have won more awards at the London New Designers exhibition than students from any other institution in the UK. The latest Research Assessment Exercise ranked DJCAD No1 in the UK for the quality of its art & design research environment. Over the last four years DJCAD has had close associations with four nominations for the Turner prize for Art, and we were delighted to see Fine Art graduate Susan Philipsz awarded the Turner Prize in 2010.

Join them in the creative hub at the heart of the University of Dundee where they are developing a unique working environment, one which you will want to be part of.

Jessica Treffler, graduated in 2004 with BA (Hons) Time Based Art

“Not only did we have very professional equipment and facilities in the department, but we were also taught in a way that I found to be very helpful. We were able to use other departments’ facilities and staff expertise. The art history and theory program offered a broad range of possibilities to develop artistic work and gain experience.”
