  • Nursing at Victoria University

Learning and practicing skills, 'Our students learning' is the philosophy that underpins the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Victoria University. Our staff are committed to innovation in research, and Learning in the Workplace and Community (LiWC) as part of work preparation.

We expect our student community to flourish as a result of our customisation of technology-enhanced learning and our strong partnerships with the health care industry.  We have a strong commitment to internationalisation of the curriculum to enable students to gain international experiences and to hosting students from off shore.

    Nursing simulation labs

Students in our nursing program participate in simulation activities each year of their undergraduate course. The use of simulation learning in the classroom enables the student to gain exposure to a range of situations that they may not see in clinical experience. This provides the student with the opportunity to practice their skills in a safe environment.

With state-of-the-art technology, the nursing lab facilities are designed to simulate space and functions of an inpatient setting such as a hospital environment. Our simulation labs enable video recording from fixed cameras with live video streaming capabilities for greater student participation in learning.

    Flexible clinical model

Flexible Clinical Model is the latest innovative program designed to enhance the student's clinical learning experience. The School is trialling the success of this program to offer students the opportunities to:

    • experience the true nature and challenges of contemporary nursing practice
    • work alongside expert clinicians
    • enjoy positive, and supportive clinical learning environments across the spectrum of nursing specialities

    Bachelor of Nursing

This course provides you with appropriate qualifications to gain Division 1 registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. Our nursing labs have state-of-the-art video technology designed to simulate an inpatient setting such as a hospital. This allows you to learn and practice your nursing skills in a safe and controlled environment. Our flexible clinical placement program also allows you to self-roster your placements across weekdays, weekends and night shifts. This is spread over an 18 week period.

Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled / Division 2 Nursing)

Graduates of the Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled / Division 2 Nursing) become eligible for registration as Enrolled Nurses. In this course you will gain important clinical experience through placements. Our ward simulation 'labs' give you supervised training and hands-on learning experiences that will build your skill base and your confidence.

The diploma will broaden your knowledge of the health care industry and builds on competencies within the basic qualification to allow you to pursue higher learning at degree level, if you wish.

    Master of Nursing (by Research)

This course is for students who have a demonstrated ability to conduct extensive study and research in a focused area of nursing. You will work under the guidance of a supervisor, but also be expected to demonstrate a high degree of independence. Successful completion depends entirely on examination of your thesis. However, great emphasis is also placed on the development of research skills and background knowledge.
