    Situated at the Gold Coast campus, the School provides a comprehensive education in all elements of Pharmacy. Our graduates are well equipped to undertake the pharmacy internship program offered by the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia. They have the knowledge and skills required to serve their patients in an ethical and professional manner while keeping pace with rapidly evolving pharmacotherapies. Pharmacy education at Griffith University is innovative and responsive to the needs of the profession and the community. We offer a unique double degree with a strong foundation in pharmaceutical sciences and clinical application as the pathway towards registration as a pharmacist.

    Griffith's School of Pharmacy has established both research and teaching links with community pharmacists and hospitals in Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast and holds joint appointments with external organisations. Our new purpose-built facility features a professional practice laboratory with a model dispensary, a dedicated formulation laboratory and aseptic dispensing unit, and research laboratories. The Queensland Government also plans to build a new $1.55 billion University teaching hospital co-located with Griffith's Gold Coast Campus.

    The Griffith Pharmacy program with its state-of-the-art facilities, equipment and teaching provides a unique and innovative emphasis in pharmaceutical sciences and a comprehensive suite of professional courses providing core skills for contemporary professional practice including drug information, evidence based medicine, pharmacotherapeutics, business management, research-based learning and professional pharmacy practice.

    Programs and courses

    The pharmacy programs were developed with the best advice and comment to ensure the degrees were in line with the latest national and international trends in pharmacy education.

    Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science

    This program provides a strong focus on the pharmaceutical sciences. Students study core courses in basic and biomedical sciences including chemistry, mathematics, statistics, physics, anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and microbiology. Pharmacy specific areas include human and chemical pharmacology, pharmaceutical sciences, drug information and evaluation, health communication, and professional pharmacy practice.

    Graduates have direct entry into the postgraduate Master of Pharmacy at the Gold Coast campus, covering the theoretical and practical aspects of professional pharmacy practice and therapeutics, specialised dosage forms and research skills, integrated with periods of clinical placement in rural and metropolitan community and hospital pharmacies.

    This articulated degree, followed by the pharmacy intern training year leads to registration as a pharmacist.

    Master of Pharmacy

    Only Griffith University graduates of the Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science (1242) are eligible for admission into the Master of Pharmacy program.

    This program builds on the strong pharmaceutical science foundation achieved in the Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science and integrates further advanced studies in pharmaceutical science, professional and clinical pharmacy practice and pharmacy research. It provides a broad range of lectures, group and self-directed learning activities, practical competence-development simulations and clinical placements to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to undertake the pharmacy intern training year before applying for registration as a pharmacist.

    Continuing Professional Development

    The certificate course in Integrative Medicine is specifically designed for pharmacists, however, medical practitioners, nurses and any other health-care practitioner, with a special interest in the integration of mainstream and evidence-based complementary medicine, will benefit from this course.
