    Law at Canterbury University

    The University of Canterbury School of Law, founded in 1873, is well established as one of the leading research and teaching Law Schools in New Zealand.     Bachelor of Laws

    The Bachelor of Laws is a four-year professional degree that allows you to specialise in a range of areas in your third and fourth years. Law graduates are highly employable in both the private and public sectors, in law firms, business and government.

    Master of Laws

    Entry requirements

    Candidates must have a Bachelor of Laws degree (or equivalent) with good grades.

    Duration

    One to two years full-time or two to four years part-time.

    Master of Laws (International Law and Politics)

    The specialist International Law and Politics LLM is a Law degree designed for students who have a basic knowledge of law and wish to develop their specialist knowledge in international law and politics. Students take four courses in international law and international politics, plus a dissertation. The degree prepares students for careers in the diplomatic service, specialised legal practice, inter-governmental agencies, non-governmental organisations and the military.

    Doctor of Philosophy PhD

    The degree of Doctor of Philosophy involves extensive, sustained and original research and study in a subject of your choice, with the results being presented in a thesis which will contribute to intellectual knowledge of the field. It is normally the highest academic qualification available and is a mark of intellectual ability, self-discipline and commitment. A PhD prepares you for an academic career in your chosen subject.
