New Zealand Development Scholarships
New Zealand Pacific Scholarships are open to applicants from government, civil society, private business organisations and qualified secondary school leavers to support both undergraduate and postgraduate study. Applications are welcome from the following countries Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu. Special arrangements are made for those holding New Zealand citizenships or residency. Applicants need to contact their local representative for details.

New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarships (NZIDRS)
The New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarships provide financial support for postgraduate students seeking doctoral degrees by research in New Zealand universities. There are normally up to 10 scholarships awarded annually.
Funded by the New Zealand Government and administered by the Education New Zealand Trust, the scholarships aim to:
- Attract top international students;
- Maximise the research capability, and output of New Zealand tertiary providers;
- Build deeper education partnerships with participating countries and regions;
- Enhance the international profile and reputation of New Zealand’s tertiary education institutions.
Applications will be considered from international doctoral candidates, including those who are already in the process of applying for entry to a New Zealand university, with a limited number of scholarships available to students who are already enrolled in a New Zealand university.
Applications for study beginning in 2010 close at 5pm,15 July 2009. Applications will be considered from April 2009.

The New Zealand government through the New Zealand Aid Programme provides scholarships in the undergraduate and postgraduate levels through the following scholarship schemes:

New Zealand Pacific Scholarship are open to applicants from government, civil society, private business organisations and qualified secondary school leavers to support both undergraduate and postgraduate study. The New Zealand Development Scholarships is a non-bilateral scheme available to candidates in the following countries: Bolivia, Ecuador, Honduras, Kenya, Mongolia, Nepal, Nicaragua, South Africa, Tanzania, and Zambia. Under this scheme candidates independently apply for a scholarship. The scholarship covers tuition, return airfare, medical and travel insurance and living allowance. Funding is no longer available for dependents. Applicants must have an offer of place before the application deadline otherwise the scholarship application will not be considered. Closing dates for 2012 applications is 1 May 2011.
The New Zealand ASEAN Scholars Award provides postgraduate scholarships for applicants from Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Lao PDR, Burma and Viet Nam. Selection criteria are determined by partner government. Applicants must apply for this scholarship through their home country. It covers tuition, return airfare, medical and travel insurance and living allowance. Funding is no longer available for dependents. Candidates from Burma need to directly apply to the institution.

Commonwealth Scholarships
These are offered to students from other parts of the Commonwealth under the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan. The scholarships aim to provide opportunities for students to pursue advanced courses or undertake research at a university in New Zealand. Candidates must be Commonwealth citizens or British protected persons and have graduated from an institution in their own country.

English language awards for PhD students from Thailand, Vietnam or Indonesia
Massey University offers English Language education awards, covering tuition fees for up to six months per student, to selected students from Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia who have been offered a place in a PhD research degree at Massey University.
