Foundation Studies at University of Auckland
If you left school with few or no formal qualifications but now want to be considered for entry into a degree programme, or if your English isn't good enough to qualify you for entrance to The University of Auckland, we have various pathways to help you take the first step towards achieving letters after your name.
Programs
If you'd like to study Health Sciences or an Education programme, these programmes will prepare you for your chosen degree.
English language preparation courses
If you do not meet the University’s English language requirements, the English Language Academy offers several preparation courses.
Support services to help you improve your written or spoken English and DELNA testing to assess your English language ability.
New Start - University bridging
If you are over the age of 20 and it's been some while since you did any study, a New Start programme or workshop could be for you.
Tertiary Foundation Certificate Programme
If you left school with limited qualifications, this one-year fulltime programme enables you to gain a university entrance qualification.
Foundation programmes for international students
Our foundation programmes have been specifically developed for international students and students whose first language is not English, to offer the best preparation for bachelors degree study.
Foundation programmes are taught on behalf of the University by the ACG Group and Taylors College (Auckland). Foundation study usually takes a year, although accelerated six month programmes are available to suitably qualified students. Foundation programmes are designed to develop skills in:
- The style of study at university
- Critical and independent thinking
- Computer use and research
- Essential subject knowledge. For example in accounting, calculus, chemistry, computer science, design, economics, English, geography, physics and statistics.
Students who successfully complete foundation studies will satisfy the minimum requirements for entry not only to The University of Auckland, but to all other New Zealand universities.
