    Certificate in Art and Design Intermediate

    Art and design are key parts of our daily lives. They are in everything we use, the services we enjoy, and the places we work and live in. Design and creative practice are essential skills in the business world and creative industries, and are applicable to a vast range of career opportunities. If you want a career in art or design, this certificate could be your first step.

    The Certificate in Art and Design Intermediate (CADI) provides you with an opportunity to build up your skills in art and design processes related to digital, spatial, product, graphic and fashion design, as well as visual arts and creative technologies.

    • An alternative pathway into an AUT degree in art and design such as the Bachelor of Design or Bachelor of Visual Arts
    • Covers foundation studies in a number of areas of art and design that open up options in specialist fields
    • Opportunity to work with a range of art and design materials and processes
    • Develop a portfolio of work in your chosen area of design or art which you can use to apply for an art and design degree
    • Covers how to do research that helps support your own creative ideas and work

     

    Certificate in Business

    AUT University encourages early application. This qualification will remain open until all places have been filled.
    The Certificate in Business gives you an introduction to the main areas involved in studying business.  You will complete the paper 'Introduction to Business' which prepares you for study at degree level.  After successfully completing the certificate you will be able to apply for the Bachelor of Business.

     

    Certificate in Communication Studies

    The world of communications and the media is growing and constantly changing. Print, broadcast and new media are central to our lives and shape our perception of the world. If you want a career in communications or the media, this certificate could be your first step.

    The Certificate in Communication Studies (CertCS) covers the fundamental communication theory and practice you need to enter the Bachelor of Communication Studies. You will develop basic media writing skills, a sound grasp of information technology and its role in the media, and explore the role of the media in society.

    • Good preparation for AUT University’s Bachelor of Communication Studies
    • An introduction to diverse communication fields, including radio, television, journalism, public relations and media communication
    • Papers focus on contemporary issues in communication
    • Can also serve as a pathway into the Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences, Bachelor of Māori Development and other qualifications within the university.

     

    Certificate in Science and Technology

    This one year foundation programme prepares you for study at degree level in the School of  Computing and Mathematical Sciences or School of Engineering.

    Certificate graduates will achieve a grounding in mathematics and academic literacy skills in order to successfully undertake study at degree level.

    • Develop your knowledge and study skills to succeed at tertiary level
    • Prepare you for University study and increase your academic confidence
    • Provide a pathway to bachelor’s degrees in computing and mathematical sciences and engineering
    • Expose you to the University environment

     

    Pre-degree study in education and teaching

    Pre-degree programmes offer an introduction to the study of education and teaching. Programmes give students a starter to gain further education, or an opportunity to move directly into the workforce in the field of child care or children’s education.

    The National Diploma in Teaching offers students the opportunity to progress through to the Bachelor of Education degree - only 6 months of further study is required following the Diploma course to attain a Bachelor of Education.

     

    Pre-degree (Foundation) Engineering Study

    This one year foundation programme prepares you for study at degree level in the School of Engineering.

    Foundation graduates will have grounding in mathematics, engineering science and academic literacy skills in order to successfully undertake study at degree level. This programme will

    • Develop your knowledge and study skills to succeed at tertiary study.
    • Prepare you for university study and increases your academic confidence
    • Provide a pathway to bachelor’s degrees in Engineering
    • Expose you to the University environment

     

    Certificate in Applied Mental Health

    This qualification provides essential foundational knowledge, attitudes and skills for people who intend to work as mental health support workers or to study in this area at Diploma or Degree level. It is ideal for adults with work and life experience but little formal education who are working in mental health. Certificate level education in mental health support work is considered the basic requirement for employment as a mental health support worker. You learn to support people with mental illness to embrace their journey of recovery and to integrate and participate in community life. This qualification prepares you for further study in the Diploma in Mental Health Support Work and Bachelor of Health Science in applied mental health.

     

    Diploma in Mental Health Support Work

    This qualification is for mental health support workers who have completed the AUT Certificate in Applied Mental Health, the National Certificate in Mental Health or another relevant education programme, or who have extensive experience in the area and can demonstrate readiness to study at degree level. Diploma papers from this programme can be credited towards the Bachelor of Health Science in Applied Mental Health (Mental Health Support Work minor).

     

    Pre-degree study in hospitality, tourism and events

    Pre-degree qualifications give students a start in university study, or an opportunity to move directly into the workforce  - in event management, travel, tourism or hospitality.

    Pre-degree study in language and cultures

    Pre-degree study offers an introduction to language and cultures. Programmes give students a starter to gain further education, or an opportunity to move directly into the workforce.

     

    Pre-degree qualifications in science

    We offer certificate and diploma qualifications, focused on the practical skills required to work in science. Graduates may also be able to cross credit into the Bachelors degree.

    Certificate in Applied Science

    If you are unsure which area of science to study, the Certificate in Applied Science provides a broad overview of applied science and an understanding of further study options.

    Studying at the certificate level prepares students for entry into undergraduate qualifications in sciences.

    Diploma in Applied Science

    The diploma in applied science will develop your expertise in either anaesthetic technology and pre-chiropractic science.

     

    Pre-degree study in Social Sciences and Public Policy

    Pre-degree courses offer an introduction to the study of Social Sciences and Public Policy. Courses give students a starter to gain further education, or an opportunity to move directly into the workforce.
