Foundation (Phoenix Centre)
This course has been designed for students who need a helping hand into the world of Tertiary study. Students will learn a wide range of skills and will are able to try out many other courses as part of the programme. Students will earn credits towards NCEA Level 1 as well as setting themselves a great foundation for years to come.
Students are encouraged to go onto further study in programmes offered by Tai Poutini Polytechnic. By trying out lots of options, there is support and guidance to help make a better choice for the future.

Skills for the Workplace (Youth Training)
This programme offers young people the opportunity to develop a training plan that includes training in foundation skills and general employment skills through to higher level industry skills through a range of training modules.
All students will develop and follow an individual training plan that identifies their employment focus, learning needs, barriers and specific training objectives. Each student’s programme will include a workplace literacy and numeracy assessment, employment skills and a job search programme.
Students may enrol at any time during the year and can move between the one of the specific Industry modules and the Employment Skills module and specific industry modules (pre-entry requirements apply).

Students will select one or more qualifications throughout the year as part of their training plan, Qualifications available include:
- National Certificate in Computing Level 2 & 3
- National Certificate in Business Administration & Computing Level 2 & 3
- NCEA Level 1 & 2
- National Certificate in Employment Skills Level 1
- National Certificate in Mathematics Level 1
- All training modules will include learning and assessment against unit standards relevant to the industry. These will count towards industry National Certificates, however the training objective is to gain employment rather than a qualification.
- Where appropriate, students will be able to gain industry short awards, including
- HSI Certificates of Achievement in Customer Service, Barista, Food Safety and Hospitality Operations.
