    Brimingham

Birmingham is the second largest city of England. Located west of central England on the Plateau of Birmingham, which is 150 to 200 meters high. The city goes back a 1000 years; from a tiny Anglo-Saxon village, Birmingham has grown into a major commercial and industrial city. It has low hills to the south and the west that give good views of the city.Easy access to coal and iron ore in the 16th century led to metalworking industries. By the 17th century, it was a large producer of small arms. Much of the weaponry used by Oliver Cromwell's men during the English Civil War came from Birmingham.

By the 18th century, it had become a major industrial center of England.Today, the city has a population of about 1,001,000, and a large immigrant population of south asian descent. The city is also known by its nickname of Brum and the locals as Brummies.

Birmingham has a sea climate. During the summer temperatures are around 20 degrees Celsius; during the winter around 4.5o degrees Celsius. Extreme weather conditions are uncommon. However, Birmingham got hit by several tornados, the latest was in 2005. During the summer more heat waves are recorded over the past few years. Because of the density in building and the crowded city it feels even warmer than thermometers show.

Birmingham has a hugely compelling and eclectic arts scene with world class, inspirational organisations and venues right across the cultural spectrum. The diverse range of galleries, gig venues, theatres and cinemas the city has to offer are second to none. There’s plenty for art lovers to see in Birmingham. The more traditional Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery hosts the largest collection of Pre-Raphaelites in the world whilst The Barber Institute of Fine Arts is home to modern classics like Degas and Magritte. Birmingham Royal Ballet is world leading in the creation of new and innovative popular ballets, shaped by a host of international choreographers including director David Bintley.

Over the last 30 years Birmingham’s economy has been transformed from one reliant on manufacturing to one based on services. Birmingham has successfully countered the decline in employment in manufacturing by putting in place a regeneration strategy to redevelop the city centre to encourage the growth in service sector employment in industries like business and professional services - and also sectors involved in the Visitor Economy, such as tourism, conferencing, hospitality, leisure and retailing. Birmingham has experienced a healthy level of economic output growth over the last two decades, benefiting from being the regional capital and centre for employment and commerce.

Christianity remains the city’s most prominent religion. Other major religions are Islam, Sikh, and Hindu. There are a lot of places of worship for each religion(Churches and Cathedrals, Temples, Mosques, Synagogues) in brimingham.
