    Nottingham

     

    Nottingham is the thriving regional capital of the East Midlands. located, it is within easy reach of most of the country - London is 124 miles away, Manchester 71 miles and Birmingham 49 miles. The city has a population of over 273,000 with over 3 million people living within an hours drive of the city centre. It is Centrally also part of the UK's core cities group, those cities that have been identified by the Government as one of the powerhouses of the economy.The centre of Nottingham lies on the River Leen and its southern boundary follows the course of the River Trent, which flows from Stoke to the Humber.

     

    Nottingham features a changeable, temperate climate with warm and often hot summer weather. Temperatures during July and August regularly exceed 20°C / 68°F, although peak at more than 25°C / 77°F. However, Nottingham's summer months can experience unexpected showers and downpours at times, which are usually quick to clear.As autumn approaches in Nottingham, from late September onwards, the climate begins to cool and temperatures slowly drop, with the change being particularly noticeable during the evenings. January and February tend to be Nottingham's coldest months, when night-time temperatures hover just above freezing.Spring is quick to arrive in Nottingham and the climate soon warms up, with plenty of clear, blue skies and temperatures regularly reaching more than 10°C / 50°F during March. The average annual daytime temperatures in Nottingham are around 14°C / 57°F.

     

    Nottingham is well known for the legend Robin Hood and is enriched with a flourishing arts scene, including visual arts, music, theatre, cinema, literature and entertainment. People of all ages, interests and backgrounds are all well-catered for and encouraged to discover what Nottingham culture has to offer. There are a variety of art galleries in Nottingham. Including these: Nottingham Contemporary, New Art Exchange and The Djanogly Art Gallery and Wallner Gallery. There are a number of professional theatres in Nottingham which cater for a variety of tastes and audiences.  Nottingham Playhouse where you can find cutting-edge theatre, dance and comedy productions and a lot more besides. The Royal Centre where you'll find well-known music and comedy artists and touring musical, opera and dramatic productions.

       

    Nottingham’s economy has undergone many changes in the last half century. The demise of heavy industry has led to a more diverse service-led economy. In recent years the city has established itself as the administrative capital of the East Midlands thanks to the emergence of new knowledge based sectors supported by two high quality academic institutions, The University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University.

     Christianity has a special place in Nottingham City and County’s religious history and contemporary life. Jewish people, Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus and Buddhists have lived in Nottingham City and County, often for many decades. There are regional centres for each of these faiths within a few miles of all of our schools.
