    Inverness

Often referred to as the 'capital' of the highlands Inverness is the northernmost major city of Scotland. Fresh air, an uncrowded and clean environment, healthy living, quality housing and a sense of community all make Inverness and the Highlands the place to live. Once a small village nestling on the shores of the River Ness, Inverness is today a thriving, modern town and commercial centre. The heart of the town offers a wide variety of shopping experiences from the ubiquitous souvenir shops to famous high street retailers like Marks & Spencer.

Inverness boasts some of the finest traditional kilt making shops in Scotland and no holiday would be complete without a visit to watch the most famous of all Scottish garments being made.

Despite its location on the coast of northern Scotland, Inverness has one of the coldest winter climates in the United Kingdom. Temperatures regularly drop down to around -10°C / 50°F and may even hit as low as -17°C / 63°F, but it is not all as bad as it sounds. In fact, when the mercury doesn't plunge into the Arctic realm, the winter weather around the city can be somewhat mild. Factors like the wind chill certainly exacerbate the cold, but if conditions are right, you can get away with a sweatshirt on milder days.

Loch Ness is a large, deep, freshwater loch in the Scottish Highlands extending for approximately 37 km southwest of Inverness. Loch Ness in the Highlands of Scotland is one of the most popular UK holiday destinations. There are lots of things to see and do for a great family holiday - castles, golf, fishing, hiking and activity holidays all within easy reach of Scotland's fastest growing city Inverness. Eden Court Theatre is a large theatre, cinema and arts venue situated in Inverness, Scotland. The theatre has recently undergone a complete refurbishment and major extension, adding a second theatre, two dedicated cinema screens, two performance/dance studios, improved dressing room and green room facilities and additional office space.Cawdor Castle is located 12 miles east of Inverness in the eastern heart of the Scottish Highlands.Set in wooded grounds, the present buildings date from the early 14th century, but the old drawbridge over the defensive ditch now takes tourists into the central square tower.

Inverness is in the north of Scotland and is one of the smallest cities in Scotland with some 55,000 people. The City is growing fast due to Inverness airport and its location in the Highlands. Inverness airport has made a huge difference to the local economy, with cheap flights from the principle English Cities giving urban dwellers access to the delights of the Highlands of Scotland.
