University of Science Malaysia was established as the second university in the country in 1969. Right from the time of its establishment USM has adopted an innovative approach to higher education and of significance is its departure from the traditional faculty system of academic organisation. 

School of the Arts offers undergraduate programmes in Fine Art, Drama & Theatre, Music, Product Design, Communication Graphics and New Media Design & Technology. The undergraduate programme is a three-year, full-time Bachelor of Art or Bachelor of Fine Art degree programmes with courses offered throughout the academic year, whilst the graduate programme offers both mix-mode and research pathways.

Each of these highly individual professional degree programmes share certain important characteristics that reflect the APEX status of University Sains Malaysia. School of the Arts unique approach to the education of artists.
