    Apart from those listed below, Australian scholarship sources for international students are not common. Students are advised to also explore their options for scholarships within their home country prior to accepting an offer to study at JCU. Generally scholarships, grants, subsidies, bursaries and other awards in this category, are not required to be repaid by students, providing any conditions are met.

    Australian Development Scholarships (ADS)

    JCU is a participating university of the Australian Development Scholarship (ADS) scheme, funded by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID). JCU has welcomed hundreds of AusAID students from developing countries over the years. The International Student Centre has staff dedicated to assisting AusAID students with academic and personal support.

    Australian Leadership Award (ALA) scholarships

    The Australian Government offers scholarships to future and present leaders and key staff in corporate, academic, non-government and government services in the Asia-Pacific Region. Applications for the 2010 intake open in April 2009. The ALA Scholarship supports study towards Masters or Doctoral degrees in Australia, and is funded the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID).

    Research Scholarships

    JCU offers highly competitive scholarships to students commencing research degrees at Master or Doctoral level. The International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) covers tuition fees and medical insurance. JCU Postgraduate Research Scholarship (JPRS) provide a living allowance only

    Students must be accepted for a place in a research degree program to be considered for scholarship support. The current application closing date is 30 August each year however please check the Graduate Research School web-site (listed below) for the most up to date deadlines and information.

    Endeavor Awards

    The Endeavour Awards is the Australian Government’s internationally competitive, merit based scholarship program providing opportunities for citizens of the Asia-Pacific, Middle East, Europe and the Americas to undertake study, research and professional development in Australia.

    The Endeavour Awards aim to:

    • Develop on-going education, research and professional linkages between individuals, organisations and countries;
    • Provide opportunities for high achieving individuals to increase their skills and enhance their global awareness;
    • Contribute to Australia’s position as a high quality education and training provider, and leader in research and innovation;
    • Increase the productivity of Australians through an international study, research or professional development experience.
