Master of Dental Public and Primary Health
The Master of Dental Public and Primary Health (MDPPH) is designed to be an appropriate broad-based course of study for a person who wishes to pursue a career in dental public and primary health. This program fosters the development of critical analysis and research competence, along with the advanced set of knowledge and skills in dental public health that is required by the specialist in that field. Research topics vary widely, from epidemiological studies to qualitative, educational and clinical studies and health services research.
Admission requirements
Admission to the Master of Public Health requires the following:
- a Bachelor of Dental Science from this University or equivalent as recognised by the Faculty
or
- a bachelor's degree from this University containing a significant component of dental health related coursework, or equivalent as recognised by the Faculty
- at least two years experience in the practice of general dentistry
or
- a Graduate Diploma in Dental Public and Primary Health
Doctor of Dental Medicine
Dentistry involves the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases of the mouth. This can include orthodontic treatment, replacement of missing teeth and the treatment of gum disease, and discoloured and damaged teeth. As personal appearance, speech and general health assumes greater importance, we are now demanding higher levels of professional care from dentists. In the final year of the course you will spend most of your time working in clinical supervised outplacements. The course makes full use of the excellent facilities at the School of Dentistry—the only institution in Western Australia where students can train to become a dentist.
Professional pathway
Undergraduate degree (3 years)*: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline (see specific entry requirements above)
Postgraduate degree (4 years): Doctor of Dental Medicine
Standard Pathway
- Completion of an undergraduate bachelor’s degree with a Grade Point Average of at least 5.5 (weighted average of approximately 65 per cent)
- Minimum GAMSAT score of 50 overall and 50 in each section OR
- MCAT with 8 (Verbal Reasoning), 8 (Physical Sciences), M (Writing Sample), 8 (Physical Sciences)
- Structured interview
- Manual dexterity and spatial awareness admission tests
