Deakin University

Deakin University was established in the 1970s as one of the new generation of Australian universities. Named after Alfred Deakin, Australia's second Prime Minister, Deakin combines a university's traditional focus on excellent teaching and research with a desire to seek new ways of developing and delivering courses. Deakin has won several awards for its teaching and learning excellence - testament to its excellent facilities, flexible study options and courses which are informed by industry professionals.

Accommodation

On campus student accommodation is available on the Melbourne Burwood Campus, Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus and Warrnambool Campus. Designed with the needs of rural, regional, interstate and international students in mind, the residences provide a safe and supportive environment particularly suited to first year students who have not previously lived away from home.

Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus

Deakin's Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus is located on the western edge of Geelong, 72 kilometres south west of Melbourne. The campus features expansive landscaped grounds and extensive sporting facilities. It is the second-largest campus of the University, with more than 4300 on-campus students. Services and facilities include:

‘I was very good at food technology at school, so I knew I wanted to study something in nutrition. However, I didn’t want to be tied down to only nutrition, so studying a Bachelor of Health Sciences really appealed to me as I got to major in another area, my choice being Family, Society and Health. It’s a good course if you know you want to have a career in health, but aren’t sure what specific area you want to go into. ‘I chose Deakin because of its convenient location for me being only 15 minutes away from home, the fact that Deakin is well known to be the best place in Victoria for studying nutrition and also for its modern and artistic looking Melbourne Burwood Campus.
