Charles Darwin Art
Art at Charles Darwin University
Studying creative arts, humanities or music at Charles Darwin University offers opportunities that you won't find at any other university in Australia or, indeed, in the world. Because of our location, the University brings together a unique combination of teaching, research and study opportunities in central and northern Australia. We have campuses in the central Australian desert and the tropical Top End. The Darwin campus sits astride the frontier between Australia and Southeast Asia.
The School of Creative Arts and Humanities takes full advantage of our location. Our courses draw on our understanding of the rich local cultures of the Territory's indigenous communities in the centre and the Top End. Indigenous artists and musicians enrich our creative art and design programs as students and instructors. We deliver art and music programs in remote communities as well as in Darwin and Alice Springs. The School is expanding its teaching and research on the peoples and cultures in the region to our immediate north. We are moving into exciting new research areas like Creative Industries and East Timor studies while also strengthening our programs in the archaeology and social anthropology of northern Australia.
The School of Creative Arts and Humanities offers you a great opportunity to learn about the arts of performance and expression through its Music and Visual Arts programs. The School actively engages with the community in Darwin through the Darwin Symphony Orchestra and the Centre for Youth and Community Music as well as a host of work integrated learning projects that connect our teaching to the real world challenges facing Territorians. We also host regular concert series, artist forums and exhibitions to showcase new works by communication, art and design staff and students. The Humanities and Social Sciences offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses about human cultures and communication and in the social sciences. You can study a second language (Mandarin, Greek or Indonesian) or specialise in North Australian, Indonesian and Southeast Asian Studies in these courses.
