The Earth Sciences include: Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, Economic Geology and Environmental Geology. By combining studies in Geology, Geophysics or Geochemistry with other science majors, it is possible to become involved in some exciting areas of geoscience.
The School has its main presence on the southern campus, with 15 academic staff and 8 professional staff. In Hobart we offer a broad choice of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes across the arts and sciences. Many of our postgraduate students share these buildings with us as they work on their research projects and teach into some of our courses.
The School has a dedicated presence on the Newnham campus, where our degrees offer students a broad choice of undergraduate degree programmes in the environmental sciences and natural resource management sectors. Dr Greg Unwin and Dr Joanna Ellison are based there full-time. The Cradle Coast campus is at an exciting phase of development, with plans to significantly grow its research profile, student numbers, courses and facilities over the next five years.

The discipline of Mathematics offers a range of courses and research supervision in statistics, and pure and applied mathematics. Mathematics provides the language that underpins technology and describes all aspects of the natural world. Mathematics provides fundamental skills in problem solving, modelling and analysis.
The School of Plant Science has international recognition for teaching and research in physiological and forest genetics, evolution and ecology of the Australian flora and introduced marine pests, facilitated by outstanding molecular and plant growth facilities. Career options are diverse.
Psychology is a diverse discipline concerned with the scientific study of human experience and behaviour. It considers explanations and causes of behaviour and applies that knowledge to help individuals and groups in clinical settings, education, employment and the community.
Zoology is the study of animal life – how animals are built, how they work, how they behave, their evolutionary relationships, how they interact with other animals, plants and organisms, and the physical environment.
