School of Life Sciences
The School of Life Sciences comprises the Department of Agricultural Sciences, the Department of Botany, the Department of Microbiology, and the Department of Zoology, all at Bundoora, and the Department of Environmental Management & Ecology at Albury-Wodonga. The staff of the School are actively involved in many areas of research across the range of biology, from molecular to organismal to ecosystem, and this range of interests is reflected in the subjects that we teach at all levels from Undergraduate to Honours and Postgraduate studies.

The School of Molecular Sciences is in the Faculty of Science, Technology & Engineering and consists of the Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry, Genetics and the School of Pharmacy.
School of Molecular Sciences
The School has a very strong research culture and attracts over $7 million in outside research grants per annum. The School has also been very active in developing new initiatives in teaching. These include the development of Medical Sciences and Chemical Science degrees, a new Immunology subject as well as the 2-year Masters in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics. A new Medicinal Chemistry course is now being developed. It goes without saying that our teaching is informed by research.
$64.1 million has been allocated by the Federal Government’s the Education Investment Fund for the establishment of the La Trobe Institute for Molecular Science (LIMS). The Institute will support, expand and extend the teaching and research work of the School of Molecular Sciences at La Trobe.
School of Psychological Science
The School offers a range of courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels specialising in the scientific study of human behaviour, including fields such as cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology, and behavioural neuroscience.
At the undergraduate level, the School offers a course with a strong focus on psychology, the Bachelor in Psychological Science degree. This degree provides a particularly good springboard for postgraduate training in professional psychology. It is also an excellent foundation for many other careers, as understanding human behaviour is central to so many fields, such as human resource management or counselling. The attributes our graduates
acquire include excellent problem-solving and communication skills, and sound teamwork skills, which are highly sought after by prospective employers. The postgraduate Clinical Psychology and Clinical Neuropsychology programs both have outstanding reputations and are well known for the quality of their graduates. The programs are long-established and have staff with recognized teaching expertise in their specialist fields..
Undergraduate Courses in Psychology
In 2008, the name for the primary undergraduate degree offered by the School changed from the Bachelor of Behavioural Science to the Bachelor of Psychological Science. We think this new name better reflects how people speak about our content area, though our focus on behavior remains the same! We hope those interested in psychology will now be better able to find us and the public will know better what our graduates have learned.
The School of Psychological Science offers students the opportunity to major in psychology in the Bachelor of Psychological Science Degree and in several double degrees. The School also offers postgraduate courses that are taken by students in order to become a psychologist. The Bachelor of Psychological Science can become the foundation for this professional qualification or for a number of other career options.
