Charles Darwin Teaching
Teaching at Charles Darwin University
Welcome to the School of Education. We specialize in preparing teachers for the diverse and challenging contexts in schools, communities and colleges. We provide innovative and high quality programs at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Our teachers will be working in early childhood, primary and secondary schools as well as tertiary settings such as vocational education and training. Our students come from the Northern Territory and other states using our online learning systems to study in flexible modes that respond to their learning and work needs. Many of our students are also international students learning about and exploring teaching and learning in the North of Australia close to the Asia Pacific region.
Many of our programs are delivered in partnership with the Northern Territory Department of Education and Training, the Catholic Education Office and Indigenous communities. Our innovative programs with community and government partners include “Growing Our Own” and “Remote Indigenous Teacher Education” where Indigenous teachers are trained in their own communities. Our research in education is through the Social Partnerships in Lifelong Learning (SPiLL) and involves three themes researching
- Transitions in lifelong learning, teaching and work,
- Transdisciplinary knowledge and Indigenous methodologies and,
- Teaching learning and information technology.
Each of these themes includes an exploration of the internationalization of education and training. Being on the rim of the Asia Pacific provides our school with great opportunities to engage our region in innovative ways in teacher education, research and consultancy. Our programs and research respond to and incorporate linguistic and cultural diversity and the diverse needs of individual students and their communities.
