Within the Faculty, the School of Education offers a range of undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate coursework and research higher degrees to prepare prospective students for rewarding careers in education. With campuses in Hobart, Launceston and at the Cradle Coast a strong focus on flexibility is our strength. Our flexible course delivery incorporates online teaching and learning to complement traditional methods of teaching to enrich the learning experience beyond the classroom.

The units that are offered partially or fully online are delivered using the software platform MyLO. To ensure our undergraduates are prepared for the teaching world, we provide students with extensive Professional Experience  opportunities with increased teaching responsibilities as  students progress through their course.

    Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood)

    Duration: 4 years

The Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) provides existing and potential early childhood providers with higher levels of knowledge and skills to facilitate the provision of educationally sound programs for children from birth to eight years of age. In addition, the course will provide leaders in early childhood with competencies in teaching, leadership, management and administration.
The course content and practical experience provides theoretical and practical opportunities to practice what is learned in a safe and supportive environment.

    Bachelor of Education (Primary)

    Duration: 4 years

The Bachelor of Education (Primary) is a pre-service teaching program intended to provide teaching practice, theory and skills to enable the beginning teacher to embrace the early years of teaching (Kindergarten to Grade 8) and to lay a foundation for further professional development in both theory and practice of education.

    Master of Teaching

    Course Duration: Minimum 2 yrs

The graduate entry Master of Teaching course is designed to build upon tertiary qualifications and experience, enabling students to complete a teaching qualification in two years. The secondary specialisation requires students to choose from two curriculum (teaching) areas, with the exception of Design & Technology which is studied as a double specialisation. These curriculum areas are determined by the disciplines undertaken in the student's undergraduate degree.
The course aims to build upon existing communication and interaction skills so that the student, on graduating, will feel confident working with pupils of diverse abilities, interests and backgrounds. The course content and integrated practical classroom experience will provide theoretical and practical opportunities for graduates to practise what they learned in a safe and supportive environment.

Successful completion of the MTeach places graduates ahead of the competition with a professional teaching qualification that prepares them for teaching, not only in Tasmania, but anywhere in the world.
