  • Teaching at Griffith University

    The School of Education and Professional Studies is one of the largest and newest teaching areas in the University. We offer undergraduate, postgraduate and research higher degrees for more than 3500 students. Building on a 40 year history of teacher preparation,  our new school, established in 2011, brings this experience into a dynamic new unit that operates across  three campuses – Gold Coast, Logan and Mt Gravatt.   The School is part of the Arts, Education and Law group. We offer a wide range of programs and courses which are designed to meet the needs of educators and practitioners in contemporary times.

    Bachelor of Education

    You will study the national key learning areas in school teaching, the disciplines that form the basis of learning and teaching and elective courses. You will go off-campus to schools to develop your practical teaching skills and become competent and confident in classroom teaching. Your training will also enable you to consider other occupations where planning and organising ability, empathy, communication and highly developed social skills are required.

    Bachelor of Education – Primary

    Duration : 4 years

    Bachelor of Education – Secondary

    Duration : 4 years

    you will be able to undertake studies in two of the following teaching areas which will be relevant for secondary education:

    • Computer Education
    • Design and Technology(formerly Industrial Technology and Design)
    • Drama
    • English
    • Geography
    • Graphics
    • Health and Physical Education
    • History
    • Mathematics and Science (Physics or Chemistry)
    • Media Arts
    • Music
    • Visual Arts

    Master of Teaching - Primary

    This program is four semesters of professional preparation for teaching in primary schools and includes Informing Discipline Studies, Key Learning Area Studies, and Professional Studies and Practice. Graduates will be eligible for registration as teachers with the Queensland College of Teachers and will be equipped to teach in a primary school setting.

    Master of Teaching – Secondary

    This program is 160CP of professional preparation for teaching in secondary schools and includes the following studies:

    • Informing Discipline Studies
    • Education Studies
    • Curriculum Studies (in two teaching areas)
    • Professional Experience and Practice

    Doctor of Philosophy

    The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is Griffith's premier research training degree. The PhD is awarded on the basis of a thesis prepared under supervision that makes an original, significant and extensive contribution to knowledge and understanding in the relevant field of study, as judged by independent experts applying accepted contemporary international standards. This program can be undertaken in schools and research centres.
