QUT Teaching
Teaching at QUT University
The QUT Faculty of Education is unique in its blend of large-scale teacher education and research excellence. With over 5,300 students and almost 200 full-time staff, the Faculty is able to offer a comprehensive range of education specialist programs including, early childhood, primary, and secondary programs, and studies in higher education, workplace and community-based learning organisations. Award programs include Bachelor, Graduate Certificates and Diplomas, and Master's degrees, Professional Doctorate, and the Doctor of Philosophy.
The Faculty maintains strong linkages with the profession and sees its professional community incorporating state, national and international educational organisations. Staff are committed to improving the quality of Education for diverse learners both in Australia and beyond. Many of the Faculty's pre-service graduates are registered with the Queensland College of Teachers Registration but others work in child care settings or as trainers in community and industry settings, where registration is not required. A wide range of Professional Development programs provide learning opportunities for teachers and other educators across many specialisations. The Faculty is structured as four schools:
- School of Cultural and Language Studies in Education
- School of Early Childhood
- School of Learning and Professional Studies
- School of Mathematics, Science and Technology Education
And one Research Centre:
Bachelor of Teaching
Duration: 4 years
Education (Early Childhood)
- Specialise in the education and development of children from birth to eight years
- Graduate and work in Queensland as a registered teacher in early childhood settings such as child-care and from Prep to Year 3
- Gain extensive classroom experience through practical placement and an internship
- Course is recognised nationally and internationally (additional requirements may apply in some locations)
- Study a complementary areas, such as health and physical activity, music, inclusive education, Indigenous education, and research
Education (Primary)
- As a primary school teacher, you will make a difference in children’s lives as they learn and grow.
- Work in a real classroom with 16 weeks of classroom practice and a four-week internship.
- Graduates will be eligible for registration as a teacher in Queensland.
- Course is recognised nationally and internationally (additional requirements may apply in some locations).
- Specialise with an optional major, including Language Other Than English (LOTE), or Health and Physical Education (HPE), or choose from a range of minors.
Education (Secondary)
- You will be qualified in two teaching areas, and able to teach all grades in a secondary school.
- Gain practical experience in a real classroom with 16 weeks of classroom practice and a four-week internship.
- Graduates are eligible for registration as a teacher in Queensland.
- This four years, full-time Course is recognised nationally and internationally (additional requirements may apply in some locations).
Doctor of Philosophy (Education)
Duration: 3 years
- Make an original and substantial contribution to knowledge in a specific field of learning.
- Enhance your professional practice by focusing on your professional development.
- Be supported by accredited supervisors, many of whom are world-renowned academics.
- Complete a research proposal, develop a full course of study and present the research findings after completion of the thesis.
