College of Nursing, University Malaya Medical Center,Kuala Lumpur, started its programme with three teaching staff seconded from the World Health Organization (WHO). The school was officially opened on November 28, 1967, by the Health Minister, Encik Bahaman bin Shamsudin. The first nursing course began in 1968.The objective of this program is to produce nurses who are knowledgeable, skilled and caring to be part of the health team in the University Malaya Medical Center, government and private hospitals. First established in 1993 as a Nursing Unit under the Department of Allied Health Sciences it was the first nursing unit to recognize the importance of baccalaureate education in nursing and became the pioneer in the transition in the nursing education program by upgrading nursing education from a diploma to a graduate program, Bachelor of Nursing Science in Malaysia. Ever since its formation, the unit has been involved in teaching undergraduate courses leading to Bachelor in Nursing
