    The lists below covers the types of accommodation that is available for you. Details are provided on their characteristics, where they are located, processes for gaining accommodation and who to contact. The Halls of Residence, all home stays, Karon Court and Dan Davin have all been accessed by SIT and meet the SIT approved standards of accommodation for International students which include being comfortable and safe.

    1. LivingSpace Apartments

    This facility is an amazing place which was originally specifically built for students. It now caters for students and guests and has a variety of apartments available and some impressive additional features, such as a movie theatre and private studio rooms.

     

     
    Features

    • A very modern, warm and secure living environment.
    • 97 beds short term and long term.
    • 4-5 minutes walk from SIT’s campuses.
    • Rooms furnished with: a double bed, TV, phone, high speed internet connection, desk, chair, wardrobe, storage/drawers.
    • Large, modern shared kitchen (meals not provided).
    • Movie theatre, lounges, games room, and basement den.
    • Linen and Bedding
    • Bathroom access or a private en suite.


    2012 Prices

    Prices are from $160 per week per room (for long term stays 12 weeks+ and include current GST rates. (subject to availability and change)

    Bond - $550 plus a $50 admin fee. One week in advance. Please note that we do not take students for less than 12 weeks now. Some block-course student accommodation is still available dependent on availability.

    2. The Haven

    The Haven offers convenient accommodation with no minimum tenancy time.

    Features:

    • A lounge area, TV area, area with pool table and games.
    • 2-10 minute walk to SIT campuses (with off street parking).
    • Electricity and the use of the washing machine. Dryers at a fee.
    • A warm space, heated in the mornings and from 5pm till 11pm.
    • 2 shared kitchens and two shared bathroom facilities
    • Large sized rooms with double bed, desk & chair, clothes rack, chest of drawers, 1x set of cutlery and bedding.

    3- Kelvin House

    A 2-10 minute walk from SIT campuses, Kelvin House offers:

    • Free use of the house mountain bikes, internet and telephone
    • Fresh bread, milk and butter supplied (twice weekly)
    • Linen (sheets and pillowcases) supplied (change over every two weeks).
    • Electricity, wood and coal, all supplied.
    • Cleaner will attend, twice weekly.

     

    2012 Prices

    3 x Queen Bedrooms, $225 pw (1 couple per room).
    1 x Twin single room, $115 pp, pw.
    6 x single rooms, from $130 - $149 pw.
    A reduction of 25% rent for up to 3 weeks once a year for
    holidays is available.

    The Grand Hall of Residence

    The Grand Hall of Residence is Southern Institute of Technology's Hall of Residence. Not only will you have two meals a day provided in a communal dining room (lunch may be made from provisions in the refrigerator), you will also receive cleaning services, laundry facilities and security, as well as brilliant opportunities to meet new and exciting people and make some great friends. You have your own room. Cleaning services are provided, but you will be expected to care for your own room. The halls are located near to the campuses. Each room comes fully equipped with its own ensuite... that means no communal bathrooms!

    4. International Student Homestays

    Our International Student Advisor will ensure that your accommodation is of a good standard, that complies with the Code of Practice and that your host family will assist you with life in New Zealand. You will become an important part of your homestay family while you are in Invercargill. We choose friendly and helpful families who provide comfortable accommodation. You will have plenty of opportunity to practise English in your homestay. Your completed application form will provide us with the guidelines to identify a suitable homestay host for you. We will provide you with a photograph of your hosts ands details including its location in respect of SIT.

    We will re-confirm your accommodation arrangements when we receive your arrival date and travel information. Please send this information as soon as you have made your travel arrangements. If you are not entirely happy with your homestay, our international student advisor will assist you in finding another homestay at no extra cost. We suggest it is best to stay with a kiwi homestay for at least the first 3 months of your stay in New Zealand.
