    Early Childhood Education

    Educating and caring for young children is a pivotal role in the community. Teaching in kindergartens, kohanga reo or education and care centres or developing education programmes and designing educational resources, there are plenty of options for you to explore on this career path.

    An Early Childhood Teacher spends their days educating and caring for young children in kindergartens, kā hanga reo or education and care centres. Your day could include planning daily programmes, implementing Te Whāriki - the early childhood curriculum, assessing children’s progress and discussing it with parents or caregivers and other education professionals, making learning resources and if you’re a kaiako in kāhanga reo, helping children learn te reo Māori. and tikanga Māori.

    If working in a home environment appeals to you then chances are so would a career as a Nanny. In this role you’d be responsible for the care, well-being and education of infants, toddlers and children in the home. Your day could see you feeding, washing and dressing children, consulting with their parents/whānau on their learning and development, organising daily activities, driving children to and from school and other pastimes, planning and reparing meals, taking care of everyday household chores and caring for sick children in the home.

As an ESOL Teacher you are pivotal in helping your students cope in a new community. Your role may include analysing students’ language abilities, assessing their needs, designing and preparing learning materials and course outlines, presenting lessons, working with individual students and monitoring your students’ progress.

    Interested in becoming an Information Communications Technology Facilitator? The Graduate Diploma of Information Technology in Education (Level 7) provides professional development for teachers who wish to up skill in this field. As the ICT Facilitator you will assist in the integration of ICT into classrooms to enrich the teaching and learning for students

Our Adult Education programmes qualify you to teach at universities, colleges of education, polytechnics, wananga and other post-secondary education providers.

    Careers

    A Tertiary Lecturer teaches at universities, colleges of education, polytechnics, wānanga and other post-secondary education providers. As well as preparing and giving lectures to students, your day could include carrying out research to publish, marking assignments and exams, attending or presenting at a conference, supervising students’ research and taking care of administrative work.
