- National Certificate in Computing
The National Certificate in Computing (Level 2) is ideal for those who wish to gain a formal computing qualification in computing on a part time basis. On completion of this programme you will be able to use a range of computer programmes and functions including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office, internet, email and file management.
The purpose of this programme is to identify to employers, individuals who have achieved a base level of competence and understanding in the use of personal computers for business use. If you are already employed, this is a good way to meet professional development requirements and to prove your computing proficiency.
This qualification also provides an entry level for further education in computing.
- Certificate in Information and Communications Technology
If you are looking for a career in the exciting dynamic field of computing and information technology the Certificate in Information and Communications Technology (Level 4) will provide you with the necessary skills to get the most out of personal computers. It also gives you the best stepping stone for further study with integrated Information and Communications Technology qualifications.
This programme will be offered for the first time from Semester Two, from the Westport Campus July 2012 via blended delivery.
Blended delivery (Westport Campus only) includes:
1. Scheduled tutor contact on fixed days and support from a Westport based facilitator.
2. The eLearning tool “Moodle “ will be used extensively to provide materials, support and feedback.
3. Some papers will be delivered via video link.
4. Contact with your Greymouth based tutors via Video, Email and Telephone.
- Diploma in Information and Communications Technology
The first semester of the Diploma in Information and Communications Technology (Level 6) provides a broad grounding in the core aspects of information and communication technology.
Students who complete and pass this semester can gain the Certificate in Information and Communications Technology. At the same time you will gain personal and business skills that will make you an effective communicator, team player and valued employee.
The full two year Diploma offers the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge and specialise in IT related subjects including, but not limited to, software development, website development, IT support, programming and network support.
- Certificate in Automotive and Engineering Trades
This programme is designed to prepare you for an apprenticeship in the Automotive and Engineering industry.
In this programme, practical work and theory are closely linked. For much of the time you will be working on self-paced units, involving approximately 50% theory and 50% practical.
Upon successful completion of this programme, you will receive the Tai Poutini Certificate in Automotive and Engineering Trades including the National Certificate in Motor Industry (Entry Skills) (Level 2) and the National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Level 2).
- National Certificate in Motor Industry (Vehicle Servicing) - Tyre Strand
This programme is designed for people in the Tyre Servicing Motor Industry and is a means of recognising skills and knowledge that people have achieved.
- Certificate in Tyre Servicing and Management
The Certificate in Tyre Servicing and Management is made up of 11 short awards. These short awards are designed for people working in the Tyre Servicing Motor Industry and is a means of recognising skills and knowledge that people have achieved.

This part time, 12 - 18 month programme, contains 5 x 5 day block courses held at Shantytown, Greymouth. There is generally 2 - 3 months between each block course. You will gain 40 credits including 10 elective credits.
This hands - on programme has been designed to prepare you with the skills to enter the heritage rail and steam activities. Graduates also have the potential to move into rail transport, steam plant or engineering.
