    California State University, Monterey Bay

California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) is a small public university in the California State University system on the site of the former U.S. Army base Fort Ord, on the Central Coast of California. We're one of the 23 campuses that make up the California State University system.

We serve students from the entire state of California, but 31 percent of our undergraduate students come from Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz counties. A few more things set us apart from other CSUs. First, we're smaller than most, with about 5,000 students. Of those, 52 percent live on campus. Second, our campus is on the former Fort Ord Army base, which closed in 1994, and so it has a different feel. Third, we've outlined a Vision Statement that inspires everything we do.

    Programs

To give you an edge in the 21st-century workplace, most of our degree programs integrate several traditional fields of study to give you a wide range of knowledge that employers really value.

Many programs also incorporate concentrations that allow you to focus your studies in specific areas.

    Campus

Like the other CSUs, our name comes from our location. Our 1,387-acre campus is one mile from the shores of Monterey Bay, between the Salinas Valley and Monterey Peninsula.
