There are many different financial grants, bursaries and scholarships for international students who want to study in the UK. Scholarships, grants, bursaries and financial awards help to support students financially through their studies.
UK schools, colleges, universities, government and other organisations in the UK offer a range of international student scholarships and awards.

Scholarships for independent schools

In 2012, almost a third of students at independent schools were in receipt of a scholarship or some kind of financial assistance. These scholarships are often offered for excellence in an academic subject or for skills and talents in other fields such as music, sport or drama.

British Chevening Scholarships

Chevening Scholarships are the UK government’s global scholarships programme. These scholarships support study at UK universities – mostly one-year Masters’ degrees – for students with demonstrable potential to become future leaders, decision-makers and opinion formers. Chevening Scholarships are for talented people who have been identified as potential future leaders across a wide range of fields, including politics, business, the media, civil society, religion, and academia.
Chevening Scholarships are currently offered in approximately 110 countries, in most regions of the world. In the current academic year, there are over 700 Chevening scholars at universities across the UK.

Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP)

The CSFP is aimed at Commonwealth citizens who can make a significant contribution to their home country after studying in the UK. If you are from a developing country in the Commonwealth, your chosen area of work is expected to contribute directly to development objectives. If you are from a developed Commonwealth country, you should have the potential to become a leader in your chosen profession.
CSFP Scholarships are usually for between one and three years. They cover the cost of travel to and from the UK, tuition fees and living expenses. In some cases an allowance is paid to help with the cost of maintaining your spouse and family in the UK.

Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme

The Commonwealth Shared Scholarship scheme assists students from developing Commonwealth countries who would benefit from higher education in the UK. If you are unable to study in the UK for financial reasons and are outside the scope of other British government support schemes, you may be eligible.

Royal Society Fellowships

The Royal Society offers incoming fellowships for researchers from North America and Asia. The aim is to attract outstanding postdoctoral scientists to undertake high-quality research at a UK laboratory. The fellowships are available for up to two years for postdoctoral researchers in the USA and Canada and up to one year if you are from Asia. The research undertaken must relate to a subject within the natural sciences. Awards are not granted in the areas of social sciences or clinical medical research.

Kingston University

The International Office awards more than £200,000 worth of partial scholarships to international students every year. These scholarships are available to students who are classified with an 'overseas' fee status. The International Office offers more than 60 scholarships and bursaries per year to international students (those classified with an 'overseas' fee status).

Kings College London, scholarship

Coming to the UK as an international student is a big financial commitment, and before you start on a programme of study at King’s you need to consider carefully your financial expenses and living costs. In addition, evidence that you can support yourself and any dependants is a condition of gaining entry clearance into the UK.

University of Kent

Kent offers a range of scholarships opportunities to international students. They encourage applicants to research the scholarship and funding opportunities both at home and abroad, and to take care in your scholarship applications. Please remember that most scholarship applications will feature early deadlines.

Keele University, scholarship

The undergraduate fees are fixed at the point you start your course at Keele, so there will be no change in the fee charged to you from year to year. Keele also allows you to pay your annual fees in two instalments at no additional cost.

Edge Hill University, scholarship

Edge Hill University has a range of scholarships on offer to international students. All full fee-paying international students applying for a course lasting at least one academic year will be considered for the award of a scholarship. By applying for a course, an application for a scholarship will automatically be made, with one of the following scholarships awarded once criteria are met.

University of East London, scholarship

Students from conflict zones (as defined by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office) are encouraged to apply for their International Scholarships. Six of these scholarships have been ringfenced for such students.

University of East Anglia, scholarship

The University of East Anglia awards over £1,000,000 of scholarships each year to support international students in their studies. The awards are made by individual Schools of Study in the University. All international students (outside the European Union) are considered for a scholarship of between 10% and 50% of tuition fees.

De Montfort University, scholarship

A number of scholarships and early payment discounts are available to help international students study at De Montfort University (DMU).

Coventry University

For truly outstanding undergraduate candidates a scholarship may be available. Coventry University scholarships are awarded to recognise truly exceptional academic and sports achievement.

University of Chichester

It is not easy to find scholarships, especially for undergraduate study, and there is a lot of competition for funds. The university is pleased to announce that they have scholarships for 2013 entry.

University of Chester

At least three Masters Scholarships of £5,000 each, funded through the Santander Universities agreement with the University, are available in 2013/14 to full-time taught postgraduate students at Chester.
