Meritas is a early-stage company that operates for-profit schools for pre-school, elementary school, and high school students. It is a owned by Sterling Capital Partners, a private equity company. As a holding company with $500M from private equity and an international acquisition plan, it is representative of a growing trend of for-profit investment in early education.

Founded in 2005 by Philip E. Morgaman, an insurance executive, Meritas has purchased multiple schools worldwide. Its first acquisition, in 2006, was College du Leman, in Geneva, Switzerland, which has provided the name for two additional schools in the network, Leman Manhattan Prep in New York City, and Leman International School in China.
