Official key handover at BCU's Parkside Building

The keys to Birmingham City University's new Parkside Building were officially handed over from Willmott Dixon this week, at a special event held at the landmark facility. The flagship Parkside Building is part of a £180million investment into the University’s estate to create a first class student experience. It opens for business this September and is already wowing visitors.

Based in Eastside, The Parkside Building will provide workshops, teaching facilities, exhibition space and open environments for creative inspiration for design students from Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (BIAD), part of Birmingham City University. The extension will also be home to a state-of-the-art media centre, part of the University’s School of Media - it will include the largest concentration of TV studios to be found between London and Salford, as well as radio studios and editing suites with industry-standard technology. The landmark facility is a result of the close working relationship with contractor Willmott Dixon who helped turn the project’s ambitious vision into a reality. The key handover took place as part of a special event at The Parkside Building on Wednesday 17th July, attended by delegates from across the construction sector and partner organisations. Sourabh Joshi
    BEng (Hons) Automotive

“I have always loved cars, and after completing my diploma in automobiles I was very keen to study a degree in automotive engineering. That's when I heard about Birmingham City University, in the youth capital of Europe. I decided to come to its Open Day in my city. The warm welcome, the friendly professors, the campus and its reputation helped me decide on Birmingham City University for my automotive course.

The experience of three years at the Uni has been amazing. The staff take good care of international students. The University has good facilities for the automotive sector and the labs are very hi-tech, with all the latest software. The ratio of theory to practical is around 60:40, which means we got a lot of hands-on experience, which is very handy after graduation.

As I have an internationally recognised qualification and a degree from a very renowned university, I have many options.

Overall, the course and the University helped me raise my confidence and be outgoing in life.”
