    School of Aerospace Engineering

School of Aerospace Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Engineering Campus, was established on the 1st March 1999. Before that, Aerospace Engineering Unit was established which operated from 13 May 1998 until 28 February 1999. The school was established in realizing the needs to produce aerospace engineering graduates with high expertise, creativity, and societal values, and competent in following the rapid technology development in aerospace endustry. After graduation, the graduates shall be eligible to work in government institution, half-government bodies, or private institutions which are actively involve in aerospace industry or those which are relevant. In order to produce engineers who are able to face the challenges in the work place, students will be provided with theoretical knowledge as well as practical, in which case they will be required to undergo practical training in laboratories, and industrial training in government or private agencies.

    School of Chemical Engineering

The School of Chemical Engineering ,Universiti Sains Malaysia was established on 1 May, 1992 during the Sixth Malaysian Five-Year Plan (1991-1995).

Today, the School of Chemical Engineering is one of the leading institution in the country offering both undergraduate and graduate programmes in chemical engineering. Our student population are currently totalled to about 352 undergraduates and more than 50 postgraduates. The school enjoy the privileges of attracting many international postgraduate students from countries worldwide. Since its founding, the School of Chemical Engineering has been graduating 867 graduate engineers and 100 plus postgraduate holders. The school's growth reflects the excellence of the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offered and the expertise of its staff.

School of Chemical Engineering conducted two programmes offers by USM.

    School of Civil Engineering

The School of Civil Engineering (PPKA), Universiti Sains Malaysia was established in 1989 and since then PPKA has organized a lots of seminars, conferences and short courses. This is to ensure that the school is on the right track to become a reputable and respected academic institution in this country and region.

    Outcome Base Education (OBE)

OBE is an educational process that is focussed at achieving certain specified outcomes in terms of individual student learning. Outcomes are key things students should understand and be able to do or the qualities they should develop. The educational structures and curriculum in the Programme Bachelor of Civil Engineering USM are designed to achieve those capabilities or qualities and they are regarded as means not ends. If the outcomes are not archieved, they are rethought as to ensure there is a Continual Quality Improvement (CQI) within the education system.

School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering

Universiti Sains Malaysia started offering academic programs related to engineering and technology in 1972 under  the School of Applied Sciences.

The school was established to offer programmes leading to Bachelor of Applied Science Degree with various specialisation including Electrical and Electronics. Both schools were established in the main campus (Penang). Starting from the 1984/85 academic session, the programmes were offered under the newly established School of Engineering Sciences and Industrial Technology (formerly the School of Applied Sciences). Two undergraduate degree programmes (with honours) were offered in the following fields:

School of Material & Mineral Resources Engineering

School of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering started its programme since 1984 in USM, Penang under the School of Industrial Technology and Engineering Sciences.  With the advancement of technology and market demand for skilled engineers in the country, USM took the initiative to fulfill the requirement by having its own engineering school separated from other disciplines of applied sciences.

    1. Material Engineering
    2. Mineral Resource Engineeing
    3. Polymer Engineering

    School of Mechanical Engineering

The USM School of Mechanical Engineering was established on January 1st, 1989. The initial objective of the establishment of the school was to produce high quality graduates in Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering to fulfill the high demand for professional, specialized workers by the industries in Malaysia. These industries include design, development, manufacturing, production, service and maintenance industry, which are closely related to mechanical and mechatronics engineering involving development of various devices, tools, equipments, machines, components, support systems and infrastructure.

Located at the USM Engineering Campus at Nibong Tebal, the USM School of Mechanical Engineering offers engineering academic qualifications at both undergraduate and postgraduates level. All programmes offered by USM School of Mechanical Engineering are tailored to ensure  high quality of the School's graduates, aimed towards the achievement of Universiti Sain Malaysia's vision.

For undergraduate level, the programmes offered are:

As for postgraduate level, the school offers Masters and Ph.D. programmes specializing in wide area of research which includes:

    • Applied Mechanics
    • Thermo-fluid
    • Manufacturing Technology
    • Manufacturing System
    • Manufacturing Management.
