The Faculty of Medicine was founded in 1972 and received its first admission of students in May 1973. The departments of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry were established during the same year, followed by other Pre-clinical Departments such as the Departments of Pharmacology, Microbiology, Community Medicine, Parasitology and Pathology in 1974. Other Clinical departments like Anaesthesiology, Orthopaedics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Medical, Surgery and Paediatrics were established in 1975, followed by the Departments of Othorynolaryngology, Radiology, Opthamology and Psychiatry in 1978. Department of Family Medical was started in1993 followed by the Department of Nursing in 1996. Teaching for the clinical phase is administered fully at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre. The first undergraduate training programme in Surgery (Orthopaedics) and Surgery (General) began in 1981. After a few years, 13 more undergraduate training programmes in various disciplines were offered. Since its foundation, the Faculty of Medicine has produced more that 3,800 medical doctors and 1,500 clinical experts. The clinical departments, as well as the Dean's Office, are located at the Cheras Campus whereas the preclinical departments are located at the Kuala Lumpur Campus. Since its formation, UKM has produced more than 3300 doctors and 1300 clinical specialists
