Macquarie University is on track to becoming one of Australia's leading research universities. It's our goal that by 2014 – our 50th anniversary – Macquarie will be among the top eight research universities in Australia and one of the top 200 in the world. Macquarie has continued its rise up the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Academic Rankings of World Universities, moving up 17 places from 286th in the world in 2007 to 269th this year. Macquarie is currently ranked 9th in Australia.

In 2010, The Good Universities Guide gave Macquarie University a five-star rating for the cultural diversity of our student body.
Ranked among the top eight Australian Universities to receive Australian Research Council (ARC) grants and funding, with more than AU$10 million in ARC Discovery grants and additional funding for major equipment and facilities.
Macquarie’s teaching staff consistently receive prestigious citation awards from the Australian Learning and Teaching Council. In 2011, Macquarie University teachers received six Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning in 2011 from the Australian Learning and Teaching Council.
For more than a decade, Macquarie graduate starting salaries have been ranked among the highest in Australia (The Good Universities Guide 1998-2010).
Macquarie University offered the first Actuarial Studiesprogram and also the first degree outside the United Kingdom to be recognized by the UK Institute of Actuaries, granting Macquarie graduates exemption from the UK exams.
The Master of Applied Financeprogram remains the biggest program of its type in the world (in terms of both student and staff numbers).
